What We're Learning:
Math: TEKS 4.3D, 4.2G, 4.3EStudents will deepen their understanding of fractions and decimals by exploring key concepts like comparing, decomposing, and working with fractions and decimals to the tenths and hundredths. Students will learn to relate decimals to fractions, focusing on tenths and hundredths, and will compare fractions with different numerators and denominators using comparison symbols (> , = , <). They will also practice representing fractions on a number line as distances from zero and breaking down fractions in multiple ways to see how they add up to make a whole. Through hands-on activities, students will add and subtract fractions with like denominators and check if answers are reasonable by using benchmark fractions like 0, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 1. Students will also solve problems using data from frequency tables, dot plots, and stem-and-leaf plots to apply what they’ve learned in real-world contexts.
4.6C- make and correct or confirm predictions using text features, characteristics of genre, and structures.
4.6F- make inferences and use evidence to support understanding.
4.9Diii- recognize characteristics and structures of informational text, including organizational patterns.
4.10C- analyze the author’s use of print and graphic features to achieve specific purposes.
4.10A- explain the author’s purpose and message within a text
4.11A- plan a first draft by selecting fiction as the topic, purpose, and audience using a range of strategies such as brainstorming, freewriting, or mapping.
4.11Bi- organizing with purposeful structure including an introduction, transitions, and a conclusion.
4.7B- write responses that demonstrate understanding of texts, including comparing and contrasting ideas across a variety of sources.
In this topic, students learn about patterns on Earth. First, in Experience 1, they learn about Earth’s water cycle and differentiate between weather and climate. Then, in Experience 2, they identify the processes of weathering, erosion, and deposition. Finally, in Experience 3, they explore renewable and nonrenewable natural resources.
Erosion is the process by which particles are broken away and removed by water, wind, or ice. Deposition is the laying down of eroded particles.
The water cycle is the way that water moves around Earth in different forms.
Renewable resources are natural resources that cannot be used up or that can be replaced. Nonrenewable resources can be used up
In this topic, students learn about ecosystems. In Experience 1, students identify producers, consumers, and decomposers and explain how plants can use energy and matter to create their own food. In Experience 2, students describe the cycling of matter and the flow of energy through food webs. In Experience 3, students use fossil evidence to identify and describe past environments.
Certain animals and plants have developed the ability to adapt and thrive in changing ecosystems. Others perish or migrate to new locations.
Carbon dioxide is a gas in the atmosphere that plants and other producers use to make their own food.
Decomposers are organisms that break down dead plant and animal matter. They use matter and energy from waste and dead organism bodies

Library Services Website
We are excited to share the LHISD Library Services website. We invite you to view the page to find information regarding all 11 of our state-of-the-art libraries, the book selection process, and frequently asked questions. You will also find a list of proposed book purchases for elementary, middle and high school. These books will be posted for 10 school days. If you would like to provide feedback or input on any of the books listed, we invite you to complete the Feedback Form that can be found on the Library Services website. After the books have been posted for 10 days, a committee, including campus and district staff, will review the comments to determine approval for purchasing.
