4th Grade Newsletter
What We're Learning:
Math: TEKS 4.4B, 4.4D, 4.4HStudents will develop an understanding of place value and patterns (TEKS 4.4B) by determining products of numbers and 10 or 100 using place value and the properties of operations. They will build procedural fluency and conceptual understanding (TEKS 4.4D) by using strategies such as mental math, partial products, and standard algorithms to multiply up to a four-digit number by a one-digit number and two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers. Through the use of models and representations (TEKS 4.4C) such as arrays, area models, and equations, students will visualize multiplication and understand the structure of numbers, including perfect squares through 15 by 15. The unit also focuses on estimation and number sense (TEKS 4.4G) by teaching students to round to the nearest 10, 100, or 1,000 and use compatible numbers to make reasonable estimates. Finally, students will apply their knowledge to solve one- and two-step real-world multiplication problems with fluency (TEKS 4.4H).

4.10C – Students will analyze how authors use print and graphic features (e.g., bold print, captions, illustrations) to achieve specific purposes
Writing: Non-Fiction Writing
4.12B – Students will develop drafts into a focused, structured, and coherent piece of writing
4.11A – Students will plan a first draft by selecting a genre appropriate for conveying the intended meaning to an audience
4.11B(i) – Students will develop drafts by organizing ideas and using strategies such as sequencing, categorizing, and connecting ideas
Grammar: Adverbs and Prepositions
4.11D (v)-Students will edit drafts using standard conventions including adverbs that convey frequency and degree.
4.11D (vi)- Students will edit drafts using conventions including prepositions and prepositional phrases.
Pushes, pulls, and friction are contact forces that change the position of an object through direct contact.
Friction pushes against an object to slow it or change its direction.
Gravity and magnetism are noncontact forces that can change the position of an object at a distance, without direct contact.
4.1C: Students will describe the cultural regions in which American Indians lived such as Gulf, Plains, Puebloan, and Southeastern
4.9A: Students will summarize motivations for European exploration and settlement of Texas, including economic opportunity, competition, and the desire for expansion
4.12A Students will compare how various American Indian groups such as the Caddo and the Comanche governed themselves
4.19A Students will differentiate between, locate, and use valid primary and secondary sources such as technology; interviews; biographies; oral, print, and visual material; documents; and artifacts to acquire information about Texas.
4.19C Students will analyze information by applying absolute and relative chronology through sequencing, categorizing, identifying cause-and-effect relationships, comparing, contrasting, finding the main idea, summarizing, making generalizations and predictions, and drawing inferences and conclusions.
4.19D Students organize and interpret information in outlines, reports, databases, and visuals, including graphs, charts, timelines, and maps.
4.19G Students develop and communicate a claim and supporting evidence visually, orally, or in writing related to a social studies topic.
4.20B Students interpret geographic data, population distribution, and natural resources into a variety of formats such as graphs and maps.
4.21A Students will use social studies terminology correctly.
4.21D Students will create written and visual material such as journal entries, reports, graphic organizers, outlines, and bibliographies.

Students at SRE have been learning about digital citizenship in library classes. Students are learning how to balance time online, how to be kind to others while on devices, and how to keep their private information safe. Please continue to discuss online safety with your children.

We invite you to view the page to find information regarding all 11 of our state-of-the-art libraries, the book selection process, and frequently asked questions. You will also find a list of proposed book purchases for elementary, middle and high school. These books will be posted for 10 school days. If you would like to provide feedback or input on any of the books listed, we invite you to complete the Feedback Form that can be found on the Library Services website. After the books have been posted for 10 days, a committee, including campus and district staff, will review the comments to determine approval for purchasing.
